GATE at Grant

Parent Meetings

We had a great turn out at the November GATE parent meeting. If you were unable to attend, you can download the presentation here.

Joyce VanTassel-Baska, a researcher who specialized in GATE issues, published an article that discusses the merits of ability grouping and acceleration for gifted students. She also offers recommendations on how to help gifted students maximize their potential through grouping. It is a great article to read to learn about advocating for your GATE student at the school-site level. Check it out here.

Differentiation at Grant

The GATE team uses many strategies to differentiated curriculum in our GATE classrooms. The attached PowerPoint is a collection of student materials produced using Dr. Sandra Kaplans "icons" as a medium through which core curriculum was modified to meet the needs of gifted and highly gifted learners. The presentation offers an overview of activities and assignments generated across grade levels and across curricula using icons to differentiate for depth and complexity. Enjoy!
