Early Dismissal Process

Early Dismissal: If My Learner Needs to be Dismissed from School Early, What is the Process?

  • Please report to the main office at Grant, allowing for time for your learner to transition from their learning space to the main office.  It does take some time for learners to pack up and move to the office.  Further, it often can take additional time for staff to locate specific students during school lunch and/or recess, so please plan accordingly.  Please consult the 2022-2023 school bell schedule as needed.

Learner Dismissals Ten Minutes Prior to the Learner's Dismissal Time

  • Unless the event of a true emergency, parents and guardians should refrain from picking learners up ten minutes prior to general dismissal. For example, if dismissal time is 2:30pm, and a parent enters the main office at 2:22 to pick up a child early, we will respectfully ask parents to pleased wait until the general dismissal time at 2:30pm.
  • These final minutes of the school day are high volume times in our main office and, moreover, are very important and busy instructional times of the day. It's when the teacher brings closure to the day's learning, previews what's to come, and clarifies next steps for all learners. Interruptions to this time of the day need to be minimized to the best of our ability.
  • Please plan to pick your learners up a few minutes earlier in the day if possible or schedule appointments accordingly.
  • This subtle adjustment, though potentially inconvenient for families, makes a significant difference to the teaching and learning environment for all learners at our school. Instructional time spent in the classroom is one of the research-based most significant predictors for learners' future academic success.
