Below are examples of scope of services provided in SBHCs.  Services based on the clinic partner scope and agreement.

Medical Services

  • Treatment of acute illness or injury (e.g. infections, asthma attacks, lacerations, flu)
  • Management of chronic health conditions (e.g. asthma, ADHD, diabetes)
  • General and sports physical exams including hearing and vision screening (i.e. Well-Child Exams)
  • Laboratory services (e.g. In-house waived testing capabilities for: hemoglobin, urinalysis, blood glucose, fecal occult, rapid flu and strep tests) 
  • Immunizations and Tuberculosis testing
  • Sexual health and family planning services (based on age groups at school sites) to include: education, pregnancy testing, contraception, sexually transmitted infection screening and treatment. Services provided in accordance with student age groups served at school sites, in alignment with Minor Consent law (12 years of age and older).
  • Consultations with school nurse, teachers, and other school staff
  • Follow-up and referral to specialty care providers
  • Case management support and referrals to community resources
  • In-classroom health education presentations (e.g. nutrition, sexual health and family planning, asthma management, diabetes management, mental health topics)
  • Insurance outreach and enrollment services 

Integrated Behavioral Health Services

  • Screening (e.g. PhQ9, GAD7, etc.)
  • Psychological Evaluation
  • Diagnosis
  • Counseling/Treatment (individual, group, family)
  • Referrals for additional services as needed
  • Crisis intervention
  • Parent support groups and educational workshops
  • Consultations with school nurse, teachers, and other staff
  • In-classroom behavioral health education presentations (e.g. stigma reduction, coping skills, suicide, substance abuse, etc.)

Dental Services

  • Oral screenings
  • Teeth cleaning and fillings
  • Fluoride varnish treatments
  • Sealants
  • In-classroom oral health education presentations
  • Referrals
